PRYSTINE final event was the crowning jewel of 42 months of work performed by 60 partners across the Europe. During this time, consortium partners worked tirelessly in creating fail-operational systems for autonomous vehicles in urban and rural settings.
PRYSTINE final event took place in Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia in Modena, Italy on 26th – 27th of October 2021. Project Management team presented PRYSTINE accomplishments live to Project Officer Anton Chichkov, while 53 consortium partner’s representatives, and project reviewers Lars Fredrik Rudolf Dahlgren and Dirk Wolfgang Friebel joined online. Final review event, including live demonstrations, was streamed via Webex platform to remote participants.
Over the course of the project, consortium partners produced 30 demonstrators, that showcased technological developments of the project, and the most impactful ones were showcased during the review. Public demonstrators are available online on this page (please see below) as well as on the project’s YouTube channel.
From several live demonstrators presented during the review, physical demonstrator car encompassed all technological developments. Maserati prototype was showcased on track during autonomous driving tests and performed demonstration of everyday road situations (traffic light turning green, approaching an intersection with pedestrian partially occluded, and stopping in emergency lane). Project management team and project officer were able to do a ride-along with UNIMORE representatives. The ride-along experience was also streamed to remote participants, so that they can get a glimpse of demonstrator car capabilities.
Several live simulators were presented in the review as well.
One of the presented simulators showcased real-time traffic state prediction. In this simulator decision-making tasks are made by Artificial intelligence, which have been “learning” from driving behaviour of a human driver on the highway and in urban setting and modelled human driving behaviour. The traffic state prediction provides a complete consistent traffic view for the area, and functions as an external additional sensor to the car, which input is used by the decision maker.
Another simulator presented a road safety alert system. This system uses machine learning based recognition engine to detect predefined set of hazardous objects on the road (e.g., wild animals, potholes) and warns other vehicles by using reliable and low latency alert.
The last simulator showcased trajectory planning and vehicles dynamics control, allowing a seamless switch between manual driving and autonomous driving mode.
PRYSTINE project developments have made a sensible impact to the development of fail-operational behaviour systems in self-driving vehicles, that can be built upon in further research.
26th October 2021, Modena Italy
As autonomous vehicle technology is entering a period of development maturity, fail-operational behaviour becomes pivotal to bringing this technology to a wider audience. Fail-operational behaviour is essential in handling safety-critical situations on its own, which directly impacts safety perception of AV users and the technology adoption rate. Bringing safe automated driving in urban and rural environments was one of the main factors for PRYSTINE project.
PRYSTINE project’s final review event will showcase all the work that has been done by 60 partners over the last 42 months. On 27th -28th of October Project Management team will present project’s achievements to reviewers during hybrid meeting in Modena, Italy. The rest of consortium partners will join the discussions online, via Webex platform.
29th September 2021, Vienna, Austria
The Autonomous event, which this year was held on 29th of September 2021 at The Hofburg, the Imperial Palace in Vienna, brought together the world’s major mobility stakeholders to shape the future of safe autonomous vehicles. This year’s event slogan was “Untying the knot”, in other words, solving these complex challenges by sharing knowledge, engaging in conversations, and creating an inclusive international community to pave the way for safe autonomous mobility. The flagship event tackling the biggest challenges for safe autonomous mobility included: hybrid panel discussions, inspiring keynotes, in-person workshops, virtual roundtables, and networking opportunities. PRYSTINE project was presented in a workshop, which discussed the role and importance that R&D plays in the innovation process. PRYSTINE project was represented by George Dimitrakopoulos from Infineon Technologies AG and Anna Ryabokon from TTTech Computertechnik AG, who highlighted developments of the project in “PRYSTINE: Key safety challenges & result” presentation.
Metis Baltic Managing director Athanasios Giamas and Director of Research and Innovation Gabrielė Keraitė also participated in this event. As communication and dissemination managers of the project they strived to create valuable connections through networking and other social activities, that would not benefit this as well as other projects in the future.
29th June 2021 - online
On the 29th of June, PRYSTINE had its 3rd (online) review. Supply Chain and Work Package leaders updated Reviewers on project developments and achievements.
Global pandemic made the last year quite challenging and pushed back the project timeline. Despite all that, consortium partners worked hard to meet project objectives and expectations set during the 2nd review. And their valiant effort didn’t go unnoticed by the reviewers.
As we all head into final stretch of the project, we hope that in the final review, held later this year, we will be able to meet face-to-face and perform live demonstrations on the racing track.
